Climb Safe

John Long: The Royal Scam
Coming clean on the mysterious first ascent of a Yosemite classic.
Generational Shift
Summer 2003: I should have enjoyed the waves of golden knobs, the cold thin air of the Sierra, and the 500 feet of granite swimming below me, but I couldn't.
Josh Wharton: The Alpinist
Josh Wharton is one of our most accomplished, least recognized alpinists. Embracing a disaster style of minimal equipment and a bold go-for-it attitude, he's amassed a roster of big ticks the likes of which you've never heard.
TNB: Chris Sharma and The Art of Jeep Maintenance
The scorched desert expanse surrounding Las Vegas smears together into one terrible brown color as Chris Sharma, Dalia Ojeda, Miguel and I whiz along at 90 miles per hour in an old Jeep Grand Cherokee. The American West, this celebrated frontier, as tame as it has become with commercialism and super highways, is still the last good place I know of for real adventure.
Hydrapak SoftFlask 750
Staying hydrated on a multi-pitch climb can be a nightmare. On a recent trip up the Rainbow Wall in Red Rocks, Las Vegas, I used what may be the perfect multi-pitch water bottle. The SoftFlask 750 from Hydrapak, an IV-like bag that has a tab that you can clip to your harness, to the anchor or to an inner keeper loop on your pack/bag.
