    Climb Safe

    Features

    John Long: Mountains of Trouble
The cement-bucket drop test, swami belts and the beginning of the end of a fabled climbing club.
    Destination Sinks Canyon Wyoming
On the day of the Summer Solstice, it was windy, dry and cool at Sinks Canyon, just outside Lander, Wyoming. A small band of climbers were enjoying perfect conditions at the area's choicest wall, the Killer Cave.
    Reinhold Messner: What I've Learned
Reinhold Messner was the first to climb Everest without oxygen. He has established upwards of 500 rock routes, made extreme desert crossings, polar expeditions and has written over 50 books. This is his ecstatic wisdom of a life spent on the edge.
    Altered State
A tricky crux, a surprise pop, a very fast 15-foot descent. I was delighted to find myself dangling from my beloved little blue Metolius. But when doing a quick body inventory, I noted that my left foot was attempting an inward 180. Suddenly, explosively, it hurt like hell. My partner Peter quickly lowered me, winced, and suggested we call an ambulance.
    Arc'teryx Pali Rope Bag
Leave it to the innovators at Arc'teryx to take a mundane item like a rope bag and turn it into something new and snazzy. The Pali features the standard polyurethane-coated ground sheet that keeps your rope out of the dirt, but departs from the norm by utilizing a roll-top closure.
