Features

John Long: Guilty Pleasures
Lynn Hill and I spent the winter of 1981 in Las Vegas, climbing daily at Red Rocks and plowing through nights at dead-end jobs. After roughly 10 seasons of climbing 300 days a year, my learning curve had flattened and I found myself singing the same old song.
Climbing Beta: Rocktown, Georgia
Moja Gear takes us to Rocktown, Georgia in this Destination feature.
Listening for the Echo: The Klem Loskot Profile
For years Klem Loskot was a driving force in the evolution of bouldering, raising standards in some of the world’s most famous areas. Then he dropped off the map. Ten years later he has resurfaced, still hovering near a ceiling that’s difficult to define.
Altered State
A tricky crux, a surprise pop, a very fast 15-foot descent. I was delighted to find myself dangling from my beloved little blue Metolius. But when doing a quick body inventory, I noted that my left foot was attempting an inward 180. Suddenly, explosively, it hurt like hell. My partner Peter quickly lowered me, winced, and suggested we call an ambulance.
First Ascent Peak XV Down Jacket
Winter is now the only time of year when I actually feel warm, and I have this new behemoth of a down jacket to thank for that. First Ascent, a new line of technical mountaineering apparel from Eddie Bauer, has introduced its Peak XV Down Jacket, undoubtedly the warmest coat I've tested.
