Climb Safe

Features

John Long: It Started with a Pile of Stones
Chasing ghosts on Hawaiian sea cliffs.
Shagged: Maine's Shag Crag Deals with Perma Draws
Fixed Up or F’ed Up? Perma-gear sparks debate at one of New England’s finest sport crags.
Naomi Guy: What I've Learned
Timing is everything, whether in snatching a small edge, efficiently stitching up a route, re-racking gear as I follow, watching the weather forecast, rushing from one client to another, catching the FedEx delivery truck, picking up my boss at the airport, getting the kids to school or meeting my climbing partner, who is also a single parent with a similar agenda.
An Encounter with Fred
Joe Josephson phoned with an interesting proposal: Fred Beckey had come to town for a reunion of Montana's Dirty Sox Club, a guild of Montana climbers from the 1960s through the 1980s.

If anyone has earned an honorary membership in a group named Dirty Sox it is Washington's Fred Beckey, sovereign of American DirtBag Climbers.
Black Diamond Venom Ice Axe
Black Diamond's Venom ice axes are hybrid piolets that combine design elements of technical ice tools with the proven design of a mountaineering axe.

Unlike most axes, the Venom, in both hammer and adze models, has an interchangeable pick, a feature that I am most excited about.
