September 5 through 8. September 5 is arrival and set-up day, with an evening clinic.

All meals are provided from the evening of September 5 through lunch on September 8. Breakfast and dinner are served at the campsite. Lunch is in the field, and also provided, as are snacks and drinks. Vegetarian and special-needs diets are accommodated.
Anyone with an interest in climbing photography is qualified. Previous courses have included novice to pro photographers, and some students have gone on to professional photography careers.
No. You only need to be enthusiastic about climbing photography.
Paid enrollment is limited to 15 students to maintain a high student-to-instructor ration

ABOUT THE LOCATION

Wild Iris, at 9,000 feet is an alpine rock destination known for its spectacular scenery, great rock and friendly atmosphere. It is located about 20 minutes outside Lander, Wyoming.        
 

ENROLL IN THE ROCK AND ICE 2017 CLIMBING PHOTO CAMP

Now in its 11th year, this three-day course puts you in the field as a professional photographer, under the watchful eye of climbing’s top pro shooters. Learn the tricks for lighting, composition, getting in position, anticipating movement and more, from the photographers who have succeeded in the field.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Days are spent in the field photographing our climbing crew. Sessions will include natural and artificial lighting including reflector use, capturing action, getting into position, composition, gear. In the evenings you’ll return to the group campsite for a catered dinner, photo processing, and a critique of your day’s work by the instructors. The goal is to improve your photography each day and have you go home with professional-level photos.

MEET OUR INSTRUCTORS

Christopher Beauchamp is a frequent contributor photographer for Rock and Ice and has photographed the world over, from the gypsum caves of the Ukraine to Ebola wards in Africa to big ice routes in Newfoundland. He is represented by the agencies Wonderful Machine and Aurora. View his works here.
John Evans is the former marketing director for Petzl, has been shooting professionally since 2001, and is published commercially by EMS, REI, Cabelas and Mountain Gear. You can view John's work here.
Jeff Ruppel works with Adobe/Lightroom, is a frequent contributor and has shot for large national clients including google. View his work here.

FEATURE ASSIGNMENT

Each student will receive a photo-assignment agreement—you’ll be shooting as a professional, gaining invaluable insight into the field, and getting the opportunity to have your photos published in Rock and Ice. Every student will get the opportunity to have photos published in a gallery on rockandice.com.
