Climbing with bunions

Dear Dr. J,

I can see that I am developing a bunion on my right foot and it is increasingly painful to climb.  I worry that my moderately aggressive climbing shoes had worsened the problem as the toebox pushes the big toe towards the middle of the foot.  I can no longer wear them and have to favor my right big toe when wearing my old beginner shoes.  I basically can't edge on my right foot at all, and it now hurts to run/ walk more than 1 mile.  I plan to schedule an appointment with a podiatrist soon.  Should they recommend surgery, will I ever be able to edge or fully weight my foot, or smear?  Is there a shoe you can recommend to use in the meantime?

Thank you!!

Kat
