Nalle Hukkataival, 29, has repeated Paul Robinson’s The Dragon's Guardian (V15), in the Cederberg of South Africa. He sent the boulder problem on July 14, 10 days after Robinson’s first ascent.
“Excited [that] Paul Robinson climbed his project The Dragon's Guardian (V15), I was stoked to go check it out!” Hukkataival posted on Facebook.
“The boulder climbs out a steep overhang with lots of body tension and extended moves. I really enjoyed figuring out the subtleties of the beta that
culminates in a powerful foot cut at the end of the crux.”
Robinson, 28, discovered the boulder during his first trip to the Cederberg in 2014, but he said that he could not visualize the line, so left without
trying it. He returned this June and found a way to climb through the roof. After many days of effort, Robinson claimed the first ascent and suggested
8C/V15 for the grade.
"Grades are extremely subjective and it really all comes down to a climbers style and technique," Robinson told Rock and Ice. "Repetitions
by other climbers is the only way to really get consensus on a solidified grade."
“Perhaps not quite V15 but a great hard boulder nonetheless!” Hukkataival commented on the grade. “Thanks to Paul for opening it!”
Hukkataival has climbed at least 17 V15s, eight of which were first ascents.
