Bernd Zangerl has been a visionary in the bouldering scene for over a decade. From world class first ascents such as New Baseline (V14) in Magic Wood, Switzerland, to the discovery of entire new areas with endless potential, Zangerl's lifelong journey into the deepest depths of bouldering have helped shape the discipline.
Recently, Zangerl contacted Rock and Ice after sending what he now considers to be his hardest boulder problem ever. When we asked Zangerl about the problem's difficulty, he neglected to give a rating, however, he did state: "It's for sure another level up compared to Dave Graham's From Dirt Grows the Flowers (V15), which I repeated in 2009 and is still considered to be that hard."
Watch the videos below to witness the process and ascent and be sure to check out Zangerl's story about Shantaram--a problem that is now surely a contender for the world's hardest--in the new issue of Rock and Ice 216, which is available at news-stands January 16.
