A 62-year-old man fell over 40 feet to his death in Clear Creek Canyon near Golden, Colorado, on April 6. The accident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. at an area known as the Canal Zone, which is near the first tunnel off of Highway 6. The victim was climbing with his two adult children, but the cause of the fall is still unknown. It is speculated, however, that the accident was a result of miscommunication between the climber and the belayer. It was reported that the rescue crew could not determine if the climber had appropriate gear or what his experience level was. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver.
