Cypher Catalyst Crash Pad Review

16-Dec-2010
By

Cypher Catalyst, $120

This mid-sized pad has a convenient messenger-bag-style shoulder strap in place of a backpack-style suspension, two side carrying handles and three speed buckles. That's where the amenities end. The foam is simply too soft to protect much more than a three-foot fall. The prototype we tested had the foam inserted upside down, i.e., the open-cell foam sat atop the closed-cell foam. Cypher promises to correct this for their production models. The 600-denier polyester fabric is tough, yet a carpet swatch would be a nice addition.
