Feathered Friends Swallow Sleeping Bag Review

Feathered Friends Swallow eVent shell $489
2 pounds
Rating 20 F
Field Rating 15 F

For open bivys and climbing with a tent in full conditions the Feathered Friends Swallow in eVent shell offers the best protection. This has always been Feathered Friends’ most popular bag and the fit is roomy enough for layering, yet narrow enough so you don't have to heat up a lot of empty space. Feathered Friends is a custom company and you can order your bag with a full-length zipper on your right or left side, a half zipper, numerous colors and shell options. Because the top downtubes connect to the bottom ones, you can shift the down to the top for extra warmth, or move it underneath for warmer nights. Feathered Friends used this design in their Widgeon bag for the 1992 American K-2 expedition, allowing mountaineers to go light, using just one bag both high on the mountain where it was extremely cold, and lower in milder temps.

eVent shell is extraordinary weatherproof and breathable, and a terrific option if you sleep in the open or subject the shell to frost.
Rating was conservative. Most testers said it was warm to 15 or even 10 F.
You can shift down from top to bottom, increasing bag versatility.
Roomy enough to wear clothing inside.

Feathered Friends makes their bags to order, so you may have to wait a while.
eVent shell is crinkly and noisy.
