At age 13 Mirko Caballero is the youngest athlete to join the Five Ten Elite Team. Five Ten is the leading manufacturer of footwear for what they describe as the world’s most dangerous sports, such as climbing, mountain biking, extreme hiking, B.A.S.E. jumping, slacklining, trail running, kayaking and canyoneering. After two years on the Five Ten Youth Team Caballero has been upgraded to stand aside elite climbers including Dean Potter, Sasha DiGiulian, Fred Nicole, Dave Graham and other extreme athletes all representing the “Brand of the Brave.”
Caballero has been serious about climbing, and wearing Five Ten shoes, since the age of six. When Caballero was nine-years old he redpointed Beef Cake, his first V10 in Bishop, California and since then his tick-list has grown exponentially. With the support of his family and sponsors Caballero has been able to travel the world to such iconic climbing areas like the Magic Wood in Switerland, Smith Rock, Red River Gorge, Yosemite, Bishop, Hueco Tanks, and Red Rocks, in search of challenging projects.
Some of his more notable achievements include Evilution Direct (V11) in Bishop, Meadowlark Lemon Stand (V13) in Red Rocks, and last year he sent is first 5.14c Stop Sika in Rawyl, Switzerland. Caballero also holds the ABS Youth National Champion title for the past four years.
On his Five Ten athlete bio page Caballero wrote, “I believe that the only way I will ever succeed is if I set tough goals, train hard, and most importantly believe in myself.”
Caballero’s next high-set goals will take him to South Africa and possibly Australia.
