Franklin Satellite Crash Pad Review

16-Dec-2010
By

Franklin Satellite Pad, $119

The Satellite is decidedly urban looking, with its mustard motif, single shoulder strap and new-age corner flaps. The folding design is part hinge, part taco, with a continuous layer of closed-cell foam covering the center line. The result, however, is not quite as effective as the 45-degree hinge used by Vertigo and Metolius -- a fall on the hinge area bottoms out the pad. Its pint-sized dimensions allow it to slip easily into compact cars, but with just 41 by 33 inches of landing surface, it doesn't offer much acreage.
