Metolius Regular Crash Pad Review

Metolius Regular Crash Pad, $139

Don’t let the name fool you. The “Regular” is more than just average; it’s darn good, and lightweight to boot. The 45-degree hinged closure system, side carrying handle and metal speed buckles make this pad a cinch to tote and set up. The foam is great—protective and absorbent. An accessory pouch and carpet would be nice, though. I felt like I could use a bit more real estate as well—at just 32 inches wide, the Regular is one of the smaller budget pads. I suppose that’s why Metolius makes the Large and XXL pads—you just have to pay more. Metolius: 541-382-7585, www.metoliusclimbing.com.
