Sachi Amma Sends Two V15s in One Day

By Ryan Gannaway

Japanese climber, Sachi Amma, had a stellar day on May 14, climbing Hydrangea (V15) and Babel (V15), both located in Shiobara, Japan. Dai Koyamada established both climbs, proposing a possible V16 grade for Hydrangea in 2005. The boulder problem was not repeated until last year when Daniel Woods and Motochika Nagao both climbed the line. Hydrangea's grade has now settled at V15.

The 24-year-old Amma, a successful competition climber, was ranked third overall in the 2011 lead climbing World Cup and was also the second Japanese climber to win a World Cup in 2012. Amma also climbs hard outside, claiming the second ascent of Pachamama (5.15a) and the fourth ascent of Papichulo (5.15a), both established by Chris Sharma in Oliana, Spain. This year Amma plans to spend some time climbing in the States.
