More details of Stefan Glowacz and Chris Sharma’s Oman climb have been revealed. The two rock climbing legends teamed up to climb the overhanging walls of Majlis al Jinn (The Cave of Spirits), which is the second largest cavern in the world, and touted as the world’s largest unclimbed roof. To enter the cave required a 160 meter [525 feet] rappel from a sky light in the roof. From there, Glowacz and Sharma negotiated 13 pitches between 5.13a and 5.14a on overhangs exceeding 45 degrees. Unfortunately an unknown injury and a thin time-frame prevented Glowacz from “completeing the challenge,” according to the Redbull website.
“It’s simply an incredible experience to climb Majlis al Jinn,” Glowacz told Redbull. “The route’s type and character are unique. To climb from the bowels of the earth back into the light is one of the most impressive things I’ve done.”
