Games Climbers Play | Ascent
“Games Climbers Play,” published in Ascent, in 1967, may be the most thought-provoking essay on climbing ethics ever written. Ethics, posits the author, Tejada-Flores, disguise the meaninglessness of climbing itself, because without a standard upon which to weigh our effort, the whole game is ridiculous. One of the early editors of Ascent, Lito Tejada-Flores spends much of his time in the Chilean Patagonia, writing and operating Western Eye Press.
