Italian mountain guides Adam Holzknecht and Hubert Moroder completed a first ascent of La Legrima (WI6 M6 A0) in the Dolomites on January 8. The route ascends 1,000 meters of rock and ice on the north face of Sassolungo in the Dolomites and runs roughly parallel to the more common Pichl route on the face.
Local climber Andres Marin just sent five of the hardest mixed lines in Ouray's Posers Cave in a single day. "My first visit to the cave was about six years ago," Marin writes in an email to Rock and Ice. "I remember being overwhelmed by the place and how steep the climbing is."
The Canmore climber Will Gadd took first place in the men's division and Stephanie Maureau of France won in women's at the Bozeman Ice Breaker Competition this past weekend. Gadd, 45, had retired from competitive climbing to focus on first ascents of big ice routes such as his recent Spray On.
