AAC Announces 2017 Craggin’ Classic Series
The American Alpine Club announces the dates and locations of their 2017 Craggin' Classic series, six climbing festivals in all.
Craggin’ Classic season is around the corner! Organized annually by the American Alpine Club and supported in part by Rock and Ice, the climbing
festival series, six events in all, kicks off September 15 at the New River Gorge in West Virginia and concludes November 5 in Bishop, California for
the 10th annual “Fall Highball.”
In addition to climbing the series features film screenings, climbing clinics taught by professional guides and athletes, after parties, stewardship projects,
food, live music and slideshows. Check out the dates and locations below, from the AAC:
Smith Rock, OR
September 15-17
Back in Oregon at historic Smith Rock State Park this September 15th to 17th, the 2017 event will feature films, slideshows, clinics, parties, community
and local stewardship and conservation projects all in celebration of the Pacific Northwest’s climbing and climbers!
Special presentation (and clinic) from climbing legend Tommy Caldwell.

New River Gorge, WV
September 22-24
Rally to the New River Gorge! This three-day grassroots climbing festival celebrates the climbers and climbing of the Southeast. The weekend features climbing
clinics taught by professional athletes and guides, stewardship and conservation efforts, glow-stick dance parties, gear demos, food, films, music,
free beer and whiskey (21+), games, free swag, bonfires, raffles, silent auctions and good times with great people!

Devil’s Lake, WI
October 13-15
Join the AAC this October 13th to 15th for the third annual Midwest climbing extravaganza, the Devil’s Lake Craggin’ Classic!
The 2017 Craggin’ Classic features the a full line-up of climbing clinics taught by pro athletes and Devil’s Lake Climbing Guides; a Bouldering Competition
sponsored by the Wisconsin Climbers Association and dozens of industry brands; a Trad Climbing Competition, sponsored by Wisconsin Climbers Association
and Black Diamond; a Climber Party featuring food by Madison’s Underground Food Collective and beer from Sixpoint Brewery. Additionally, enjoy live
music, silent auctions and raffles with incredible deals on top-end gear and, on Sunday, a free volunteer breakfast followed by a variety of local
crag stewardship projects—we’ll be working with the Ice Age Trail Alliance to repair
and enhance our beloved Devil’s Lake State Park!

Shelf Road, CO
October 20-22
Head on down to the best, moderate limestone sport cragging that Colorado has to offer, and be treated to a weekend of clinics, contests, beer, giveaways,
stewardship and fun!
Last year’s event was a blast, complete with a Costume Contest, film showings, great slideshows, and great parties. For 2017, from October 20th to 22nd,
come enjoy more of the same awesome entertainment, great clinics taught by professional athletes and local mountain guides, local food and beer, and
a crag stewardship project on Sunday morning. Spend time with friends, drink lots of free beer, eat tons of great food from local food vendors and
businesses, win top end gear at our raffles and silent auctions, get some free swag, do some fabulous bolt clipping in the sun, and of course, to give
back to your crag!

local climbing guides; a climber’s celebration held in the new Moab Boulder Park, featuring local food, live music, and silent auctions and raffles
with incredible deals on top-end gear. Sunday, join us for a free volunteer breakfast provided by the Love Muffin, followed by our local stewardship
project.

Bishop, CA (a.k.a. Fall Highball)
November 3-5
Join the AAC at the world’s most world-class climbing mecca, Bishop, California for the 10th annual Eastside-climbing-celebration-mega-throw-down, the
Bishop Fall Highball Craggin’ Classic!
This three-day climbing festival is a true celebration of climbing in the Eastern Sierra. Started a decade ago by local climbers looking to clean up the
Buttermilks and afterwards drink some beers with friends, the Highball has always been a grassroots an event by climbers, for local climbers. The event has grown to feature films, climbing clinics, slideshows, music, games, gear, and good times—all in a massive celebration
right in the heart of downtown Bishop. And of course, we have incredible participation in our local stewardship projects, which take place both in
the Volcanic Tablelands as well as the Buttermilks.
