Ashima Shiraishi, 14, made quick work of Phenomena (V14 8b+) in Hinokage, Miyazaki, Japan. On Christmas day, she claimed the second ascent of the Dia Koyamada boulder problem in just 30 minutes.

“Santa Claus gave me the best Christmas present ever! I sent Phenomena (V14/8b+) in Hinokage, Miyazaki!!!” Shiraishi writes on Facebook. “I once again surprised myself by sending it after about 30 MINUTES of working on it!!!! There are so many amazing boulders here, it’s unbelievable.”

Last year, at age 13, Shiraishi became the second woman to climb V14 when she sent Fred Nicole’s Golden Shadow in Rocklands, South Africa. She tied Mirko Caballero, also 13, for the honor of being the youngest person to send the grade.

Phenomena is Shiraishi’s fifth ascent in the V14 range. Along with Golden Shadow and now Phenomena, she has climbed The Swarm (V13/14) in Bishop, California, Nuclear War (V13/V14) in southern New York and Terre de Sienne (V13/14) in Hueco Tanks, Texas.
