Happy Birthday to Fred Beckey

Happy belated birthday to Fred Beckey, who turned 90 on Monday. Beckey’s 90 years have been devoted to mountains, and his climbing adventures have left him with more first ascents in the mountains than anyone in North American climbing history.

Happy belated birthday to Fred Beckey, who turned 90 on Monday. Beckey’s 90 years have been devoted to mountains, and his climbing adventures have left him with more first ascents in the mountains than anyone in North American climbing history.

Beckey writes in the forward of his most recent book Fred Beckey’s 100 Favorite North American Climbs, “Some say mountains have a ‘psychic gravity’ enticing us into their grip.” And after 90 years, Beckey continues to feel the pull of the Mountains. He still climbs, writes, and travels the world, and the adage of the infamous T-shirt still stands: “Beware of Beckey: He Will Steal Your Women, Steal Your Route.”
