Here are a few simple tips to help minimize your impact, from the Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers, Pat and TJ Beezley.
1. Always use durable roads and trails to access climbing routes.
2. When unpacking gear at crags, choose a durable location for your staging and belay areas.
3. Good camps and bivy sites are found, not made. Altering a site is not necessary.
4. Pack it in, pack it out. Inspect your campsite and climbing areas for trash or spilled foods. Pack out all trash, leftover food, tape, tape, TAPE, and litter.
5. Carry out abandoned or forgotten gear and webbing. If it’s booty, it’s yours.
6. Minimize the use of chalk when possible. Keep chalk bags closed when not in use to minimize spills, and please brush your tick marks when you’re done!
Being in the wilderness is one of the best parts about climbing. Let’s keep ‘er wild!
