Klemen Bečan, of Slovenia
, has made the first ascent of Joe Mama (9a+/5.15a), adding to the growing list of 5.15 sport routes in Oliana, Spain.

“Finally after a long fight and many long falls I did Joe Mama,” Bečan posted on Instagram. “Amazing route in Oliana.”

The line was bolted by Joe Kinder, but remained an open project for years.

“Major congrats to Klemen Bečan,” Kinder wrote on Instagram. “The 9a+ rig is pure power endurance with no clipping anything for the last third of the route.
Loco!”

Bečan had been projecting Kinder’s route for nearly three months before taking home the send on March 1st. “I was trying [Joe Mama]
since December, sometimes five tries a day,” Becan told 8a.nu.

The 34-year-old Slovenian climber has been ticking Europe’s hardest routes for years. In 2015, Bečan made an onsight first ascent of Siempre se Puede Hacer Menos in Chulilla, Spain,
giving it the grade of 8c+/5.14c. His send was the second 5.14c onsight first ascent in climbing history.

Bečan, former world champion climber, already has his sights set forward. “Still many routes to do in Oliana and other places around here,” he told 8a.nu.
“We are going to search for a new project mañana.”
