As the Rocklands season starts winding down, here are some of the hardest summer sends in everyone’s favorite African boulder paradise.

The 2018 season has been an absolute crusher, with a new V15 (8C) by Paul Robinson and a quick repeat by Daniel Woods, along with a couple ticks on his Spray of Light (V15) by the Norwegians Martin Mobråten and Thilo Schröter. Dave Graham scored a coveted second ascent of Frédéric Nicole’s legendary Black Eagle (V15) via sit-start. Numerous holds have broken since the FA, forcing Graham to use a new sequence. The famed Finnish Line (V15) of Nalle Hukkataival also saw three ascents this summer, first by the American climber Shawn Raboutou, later by Daniel woods, and finally by Daisuke Ichimiya of Japan. Though we’ve only found one Rocklands 2018 send by Nalle harder than 8B, the Finnish powerhouse put up a slew of 8B problems, including Digital Populism, The Second Wurst and Hiding in the Shadows. -Owen Clarke

Disclaimer: By no means is this list exhaustive. This is merely a list of the climbs we could track down and verify via social media and other sources. Some of these climbs, such as Pirate’s Code, aren’t in Rocklands but in other nearby regions. (In the case of Pirate’s Code, Three Corners)
