Ryuichi Murai Sends Hydrangea (V15), His Third V15 in a Month
Japanese climber Ryuichi Murai, 21, has made the fifth ascent of Hydrangea (8C/V15) in Shiobara, Japan. Since early March, Murai has completed several difficult boulder problems in the Shiobara and Hourai areas. He finished Uma (8B+/V14) and Hydra(G) (8B+/V14) on March 4th, and Babel (8C/V15) and Vanitas (8C/V15) later that month.

Japanese climber Ryuichi Murai, 21, has made the fifth ascent of Hydrangea (8C/V15) in Shiobara, Japan. Murai
completed Dai Koyamada’s problem after four days of work, sending on April 13.
Since early March, Murai has completed several difficult boulder problems in the Shiobara and Hourai areas. He finished Uma (8B+/V14) and Hydra(G) (8B+/V14) on March 4, and Babel (8C/V15) and Vanitas (8C/V15) later that month.
Daniel Woods climbed Hydrangea in 2013,
and described the second ascent on 8a.nu as: “5 moves of powerful V12 climbing leads into the stand
(Hydra), which is V13. The finish involves tenuous double toe hooks while compressing two flat crimps, that lead into the final move to the jug.”
Since April 2015, Murai has finished four V15’s, seven V14’s, five V13’s, three V12’s, and one V11.
Murai initially struggled with Hydrangea where it links into Hydra, “When I joined Hydra after the 6 moves, I felt it’s quite
another thing. So, I fell many times at the part of Hydra,” he wrote on 8a.nu.
“I’m so happy to complete all problems of Nodate roof,” he told 8a.nu. “Next, I’m going to try Epitaph V15 in Hourai or Project of ‘Nodate roof’ in Shiobara.”
