Sébastian Bouin, 22, established a direct start to Staphylocoque (9a/a+ 5.14d/5.15a) in Le Pic Saint-Loup cave
near Montpellier, France. He sent the variation yesterday, after two weeks of projecting, and named the new route Kmira, at the grade of 9a+
(5.15a).

Bouin already had the moves of Staphylocoque dialed from last year, after he claimed the route’s second ascent. His new variation
adds a difficult bouldery section onto the original line—established Cedric Lachat in 2014.

In May this year, Bouin claimed the third ascent of Chilam Balam (5.15b) in Spain—his hardest ascent. In 2012, he made the first repeat of La Madonne (9a+/5.15a) in Luberon, France.

Bouin has also climbed Era Vella (5.14d), Tierra Negra (5.14d) and Perez Victimas (5.14d) in Margalef,
Spain and Little Badder (5.14d) in Flatanger Cave, Norway.

Bouin will be heading to the Verdon Gorge, France next, then Flatanger, Norway in August.
