Shawn Raboutou and Toshi Takeuchi both tackled Rocklands’ Spray of Light (V15) this week. Takeuchi, from Japan, spent four days
working the project. “YESSS!!” Takeuchi wrote on Instagram. “Mental battle was over because of bad weather. I have still 7 days more. On to the next!!”

Along with Spray of Light, Raboutou also sent Monkey Wedding. He climbed both boulder problems within five days. The 18-year-old
from Boulder, Colorado, who placed 9th in the USA Climbing Men’s Open Bouldering Nationals earlier this year, just graduated high school in May.

Spray of Light and Monkey Wedding are classic South African V15’s. Raboutou hopped on Monkey Wedding after Nalle Hukkataival and Vadim Timonov finished the problem earlier in July, and stuck the boulder problem’s sixth ascent. Fred Nicole, who put up Monkey Wedding in 2012, originally graded it V14, before
Paul Robinson, Adam Ondra and Daniel Woods all confirmed a V15 upgrade.

Daniel Woods established Spray of Light during a first ascent sending spree in Rocklands in July 2015. Dave Graham made the second ascent the following month, and now Raboutou has claimed the third ascent and Takeuchi the fourth.

Raboutou hails from a family of strong climbers; his parents Didier and Robyn are former World Cup champions, and his sister Brooke,
15, climbs among the top females of all time.

“He’s on his way to becoming the champ,” wrote Chad Greedy, who broke Raboutou’s news on Instagram. “Just has to do ‘Living Large’ [(V15)] to become the
king of the land!!”

YESSSS!!!! I managed to do “Spray of Light V15” King line from @dawoods89 . 4days mental battle was over Beacause of bad weather.Today was so good condition. I have still 7days more.On to the next!!! @heavy.japan @fiveten_official @soill @rockmasterhq #Rocklands #Bouldering
