U.S.A. Climbing, the “national governing body of the sport of competition climbing” in the U.S., has announced the dates and locations of its second-annual National Cup Series.

The upcoming season consists of four bouldering competitions across the country, from Alabama to California, and will run from October 2017 until January 2018. Adult amateur and professional athletes alike are invited to compete for a chance to win a piece of the $10,000 cash purse at each competition and points towards a national ranking.

U.S.A. Climbing could not give a definitive answer as to whether or not the competition series will eventually extend to lead, speed and mixed events.

As for now, the NCS bouldering competition format includes a redpoint-style qualification round followed by an onsight-format final round. The top eight men and top eight women from qualifiers advance to finals. The final rounds of each NCS event will be streamed live for free.

The season concludes with the U.S.A. Climbing Bouldering Open National Championship in Salt Lake City, Utah, February 2-3, 2018. At the National Championship, competitors have the chance to qualify for the U.S. National Team.
