It’s that time of year again: Bouldering National Championships are this weekend, and the field is as stacked as ever. USA Climbing will stage the 2018 competition in the Salt Palace Convention Center, in Salt Lake City, Utah on Friday, February 2 and Saturday, February 3.

Qualifiers get underway on Friday morning, and the first competitors out of the gate are the defending National Champions, Alex Puccio for the women and Nathaniel Coleman for the men. Following them will be 39 other women and 69 other men who will all be battvying for one of the twenty semi-finals slots for each gender.

During semi-finals each competitor will attempt four problems with a maximum of five minutes to spend on each one. They will have five minute rest periods between problems. The top six finishing men and women will advance to finals, in which they’ll once again attempt four different problems, but this time with only four minutes allotted for each.

So get psyched to watch the top boulderers around—from Daniel Woods to Ashima Shiraishi; from Margo Hayes to Kai Lightner; from the aforementioned Alex Puccio and Nathaniel Coleman, to Michaela Kiersch and Carlo Traversi—as they battle for the title of National Champion.
