The super strong Norwegian climber, Magnus Midtbø, has recently clipped the chains of Ciudad de Dios (5.14d/.15a) in Santa Linya, Spain. Midtbø has been in Spain specifically to try Chris Sharma’s Neanderthal (5.15b), which climbs straight through the center of Santa Linya’s massive cave. But prevailing rain has kept the tufa’s of Neanderthal constantly wet. Tired of fighting the wet tufas of Neanderthal, Midtbø decided to try an easier route.

“I am in great shape and decided to try Ciudad yesterday just for training and it felt very easy,” wrote Midtbø on 8a.nu. Indeed, Ciudad de Dios does not seem to give Midtbø much trouble as evidenced in the excellent send footage below, which also highlights Austrian Jacob Schubert’s send on Ciudad de Dios as well. As for Neanderthal, Midtbø writes, “If it just dries up I think I can do (send) it pretty fast. I have already felt seven times on the dyno crux.” Stay tuned!
