Clif Hot Shot Recovery Drinks

Hot damn, a recovery drink for the cold-weather athlete! I like the sound of that and the taste of it, too. I've experimented with various supplements to help me stay fit and climb all the time.

Hot damn, a recovery drink for the cold-weather athlete! I like the sound of that and the taste of it, too. I’ve experimented with various supplements to help me stay fit and climb all the time. One supplement I like is L-glutamine, a recovery protein, because it is less heavy and more effective than, say, whey. (Warning: speculative! Don’t believe me if you don’t want to! I really don’t care!) L-glutamine has been shown to help rebuild muscles and it boosts your immune system. There are no known side effects.

Clif Bar recognizes the benefits of L-glutamine, and that’s why they put 750 miligrams (not a lot; I’m used to taking 3 grams) of it in their new Hot Chocolate Recovery Drink (hot apple cider is also available). There are 140 calories, 5 grams of protein and 1.5 grams of fat in one packet of this nutty-flavored drink. Just add hot water. I brought a Thermos’s worth to help me get through a cold, unforgiving day. By the end of the punishment – I mean, day – I felt like I could do one more pitch. I win.
