Revolution Pocket Jibs

10-pack for $19

Climbing indoors turns you into a sloppy fool. All the holds protrude, and climbing becomes a matter of plopping your foot onto a wart and raging. Inset holds, which force you to be precise, are one solution, but until now have been too expensive and problematic to fuss with. Revolution’s Pocket Jibs offer an economical and simple option. To install them, you simply cut a 2 3/8-inch hole in your 3/4-inch plywood wall, insert the inset and lock it down with four gripper screws. The installation process took me just 10 minutes per hold. Unlike other insets, Pocket Jibs don’t require backing plates. They do, however, require access to the back side of the wall.

As their name implies, the Pocket Jibs are small one- to two-finger (or very tight three-finger) pockets, and vary from generous incuts to shallow dishes in the 10-pack assortment. The lack of diversity and the holds’ smallish sizes limit their use, but four Pocket Jibs per panel will add complexity/diversity to your wall, and at $2 each are a cheap way to keep yourself sharp.
