BEST FOR:  Cragging, around town

If you’re a sucker for a soft pullover, read on.

New for fall, the Women’s EDP Waffle Long Sleeve Shirt from Mountain Hardwear is soft, flowy and …. voluminous. This tester is usually a medium or large, and the medium is capacious, so size accordingly.

Split sides ensure even more room to move, while the back hem drops a couple inches lower than the front for an asymmetrical touch. The waffle-pattern body is half cotton and a near-equal part Tencel Lyocell (Tencel is an eco-friendly fabric from wood pulp, and Lyocell is a form of rayon), with 3 percent Elastane. The drop-shoulder sleeves, plain by contrast but also stretchy, are cut long with a thumb hole. The scoop neck is always the ticket in a pullover, for ease of entry/exit and, dare we suggest, a touch of elegance.

The pullover comes in three colors: blue spruce, mystic purple, and, in case you wondered if it was intended for climbing, “Smith Rock red.”

At $70, the EDP Waffle Long Sleeve Shirt is spendy but useful. Works for climbing, going around town and travel.

Rock and Ice vigorously tests all gear it reviews for either 50 days or 50 pitches. This is a time-consuming process and limits the amount of new equipment we can present to our readers. Every year hundreds of new products hit store shelves, and most of these aren’t reviewed due to our stringent selection and review process. To better keep you more up to date on what is new, we present First Look. Gear in First Look has not always been field tested, but is gear we think you’d like to know about as soon as it is available. Some of the gear will be reviewed using our 50 days/50 pitches criteria, in future print and online editions of Rock and Ice. We have opted to use affiliate links in our gear reviews. Every time you buy something after clicking on links in our gear articles you’re helping support our magazine.
