On Tuesday, September 29, the wizard Dave Graham repeated Ali Hulk Sit, his first 9b (5.15b) in the Ali Baba Cave in Rodellar, Spain. Dani Andrada did the first ascent in 2007.

Graham turns 39 in November, but the past year has seen him log the hardest climbs of his life, both routes and boulders.

In early October 2019, he sent Hypnotized Minds, a V16 in Colorado that Daniel Woods established in 2010. While he had climbed V16 before—notably another Daniel Woods line, Creature From the Black LagoonHypnotized had eluded him for years.

While Ali Hulk Sit may be Graham’s first 9b, it’s unlikely to be his last. Before lockdown he was getting close on another multi-season project: La Capella (9b), Siurana, Spain.
