“During the last years I have been repeating and free climbing the most extreme and difficult multi-pitch routes but my true dream has always been bolting and doing the first ascent of the largest roof in the world,” says Marín.

Marín has finished bolting his approximately 380 meter line in the Great Arch, in Getu, China, and has dubbed the project “Valhalla.” Now all that’s left is freeing it!

Getu, China, was the host of the 2011 Petzl RocTrip. The roof of the Great Arch (the Chinese name for which is Chuanshang, and translates to Through Upper Cave) already boasts another magnificent roof climb, Dani Andrada’s Corazón de Ensueño (5.14b).
