Paradox Sports – Adaptive Ice Climbing
Paradox Sports, based out of Boulder, Colorado, has been making an annual pilgrimage to Ouray for eight
years, bringing the challenge, camaraderie and aesthetic of ice climbing to those with disabilities.
“You don’t have to have a poet’s soul to know that the ice tools and ropes are really metaphors for bigger ideas: elective challenge, friendship, team
work, empowerment, and much more,” says Paradox Sports.
“From the outside we may appear to be a bunch of climbers, dirtbags, adventurers and scallawags, but it’s not our outward appearance that makes us so unique,
rather it’s our mission. Our primary objective is to build adaptive sport communities that shift what we believe someone with a disability can achieve
(and that’s quite a lot, if you were wondering). And if we get a little rambunctious and have a good time along the way, well then… that’s alright.”
