S.P.O.T. Philippines: Bringing Climbing to Those Without
In 2014, James Pearson and Caroline Ciavaldini travelled to the Philippines to donate used climbing gear to the local community. What they found were steep,
undeveloped cliffs that looked perfect for climbing. They returned in February 2015, and with the help of local climber Yuji Hirayama, to drill bolts
and establish routes on the cliffs outside the small town of Cebu. The project acquired the name S.P.O.T. (Share, Progress, Open and Teach), which
seeks to supply locals with the gear and skills necessary to continue establishing climbing areas around the country.
