Weekend Whipper: Massive Victory Whipper, “Over The Moon,” Yangshuo, China
"That's a lot of slack, buddy," we hear someone say to the belayer just before this whopping victory whip in Yangshuo, China ?
Juan Holguin—better known as Juan Laoban in his adopted home of Yangshuo, China—takes a looooong victory whip off Over The Moon, a classic 5.12c on Moon Hill, Yangshuo. It was one of the first lines ever established in the popular sport climbing area, by the late Todd Skinner, back in the early 1990s.
James Huang, founder of niceclimbs.com, filmed this Whipper, and told Rock and Ice, “It’s customary to skip the last bolt before the chains on ‘Over the Moon’ due to how hard it is to clip it. So if you end up sending, it makes sense to celebrate!”
Happy Friday and climb safe this weekend!
