Nothin’ too jaw-dropping for y’all this week, but a good lesson that nonetheless. Tom was climbing Stairway to Heaven (5.9) at The Library in Mocanaqua, Pennsylvania. His friend Dan, who took the video, told Rock And IceĀ in an email, “If you look closely at his fall, he hits the back of his head on the wall. He was about to start up without a helmet but threw one on at the last second. Had he not been wearing a helmet, he would have hit his head directly on the wall.”

Luckily, aside from the sting of not sending the route after being so close to the chains, Tom was none the worse for wear. He kept climbing later in the day.

Rather than offer some trite, tired warning about the importance of helmets ourselves, listen to Dan: “Always wear the dome piece!”

Happy Friday and climb safe this weekend!
