Weekend Whipper: The Argument For Wearing Mouth Guards on Climbs
Face meets rock in this Whipper. Scary, but the whippee is okay. Just probably wishes he had been wearing a mouth guard!
Jeannie Gauthier sent us this whipper of William Lariviere on Electric Ball, a 5.11b trad route in the Smoke Bluffs, Squamish.
Gauthier told Rock and Ice in an email, “So this stubborn bastard does not look at the quality of the protections before doing a line and he got what he asked for haha! He ended up with a chipped and crooked tooth and a nice chest rash.”
We don’t think anyone deserves that—we all make mistakes out there—but we know Jeannie is just ribbing William. Gotta take your shots when you can, and sounds like he’s okay aside from a slightly altered smile.
William looks like he was lucky to escape with just a chipped tooth. Next time wear a helmet! (And maybe consider a mouth guard???)
Happy Friday and climb safe this weekend!
